Being skeptical as to how realistic this might be, I am overwhelmed by this
game. It is addictive, but also very accurate. If one knows WW2 history, one
can try different strategies and see how they may have panned out. You can
play the Allies, Axis, or Soviets, depending on the scenario - and there are
many scenarios, so you won't get bored.
The thrill of stopping Barbarossa in its tracks by using a tactic the Russians
used in 1812 vs Napoleon, and then actually advancing through Poland and
Hungary/Romania was something. Given that I was crushed the previous time, it
showed that sometimes, military strategy alters world events.
The AI is also well schooled in Blitzkrieg. When a weakness in the enemy
lines/units is sense, it is rapidly exploited.
Some quick tips:
1. Reinforce as many units as you can; it's more important than purchasing
other units to enter the fray.
2. Take out German panzers and Luftwaffe bases when possible, even at the
expense of allowing deep infantry penetration. The panzers are fast, and will
exploit your weaknesses before you can recover.
3. Keep your artillery and airbases distant enough from the front to limit the
enemy's attack options.
4. Do not worry so much about the cities if you feel you can regain them by
game's end.
5. Use the cities/rivers for defensive purposes. The Germans attacking Kiev
and Odessa found the going very tough and costly when I had units based in the
cities. Had they bypassed them, as Blitzkrieg doctrine dictates, they may have
caused me problems, however, this was an accurate depiction of Hitler's
interference with his General Staff.

Oh man, what a great little game! All grognards MUST buy this game just to
support PlayTek.
I paid ten bucks for this game and have already received multiples of that in
support. (I had troubles loading the game, but it was entirely my fault.)
BUY THIS GAME! I too want to see a west front and squad level game. I want
PlayTek to survive and give us more.

Blitzkrieg is easily comparible to Panzer General (an old but excellent PC
game) and the board game Axis and Allies as far as enjoyment and depth of
play. If you enjoy either of these two games, or other turn based strategy
games, I suggest you chech this one out. I recommend reading the manual before
playing even the demo. It's more than just toe - toe combat. You get bonuses
for defending in moutains/cities, moral and experience of troops, attacking
units in the rear etc. A two player option would have been nice as humans are
always more fun to battle than AI, but even without this feature it's still a
first rate game and worth the price.
Great graphics and really good AI opponents will make you play this World War II strategy game for hours.
